Ernest Doe is a well-known, long-established family firm with a network of brances in the South and East of England supplying agricultural, construction and ground care machinery across 18 stores scattered across the South and East of England.
The company supplies a huge amount of machinery; from garden mowers and chainsaws to combine harvesters and construction excavators, and represents major manufacturers such as New Holland, Hyundai and Textron.
DOWNLOAD CASE STUDYErnest Doe were getting requests to fit their small lifting cranes onto trailers, but there were none that were designed to carry and support the small cranes and no existing crane trailer already on the market. In order to achieve what was required, the modifications that needed to be made to the trailers in order to fit the crane, often meant that the loadings for the axle and hitch were incorrect and therefore it required a significant amount of modification and alteration to the chassis in order to make the crane fit.
Being situated in the same region of Essex, Ernest Doe approached Towmate Trailers in order to work together to find a solution for their problem; fitting small lifting cranes to trailers without affecting the loadings for the axle and hitch.
Due to the modular construction and design of the Towmate Trailers, this was a straightforward problem to resolve. Working with the Osprey Rolling Chassis as a base, we created a designated mounting platform for the crane to be fitted to, directly onto the main chassis rails at the front of the trailer.
Further modifications then included a flatbed area behind the crane to provide a bed for transporting the goods, and drop down legs to support the bed of the trailer when the lifting crane is in use. The final result, was a custom-built, dedicated crane trailer.
