DOWNLOAD CASE STUDYKier Group were installing water meters on behalf of Anglian Water. When installing the meters, they required up to four separate vehicles and gangs to attend to one site in order to complete the installation. This wasn’t a cost effective or efficient way of installing the meters.
Kier Group wanted to see if there was a solution that would reduce the requirement to only one vehicle and gang. This would then reduce waste, emissions and costs for them.
Kier approached us because of our prior experience in creating a hotbox trailer for Clancy Docwra. The hotbox trailer makes tasks safer, more efficient and less disruptive.
However, we still had to make various improvements to the original design in order to improve weight distribution when the trailer was fully loaded and also strengthen certain aspects of the trailer where, due to the unique use, the steel would be placed under greater strain.
Because of the modular design of the Towmate Trailers, we could take a Ram General Duty trailer and adapt it to suit the hotbox application.
The hotbox allows just two operatives and one vehicle to complete a stop tap replacement. It enables a team to carry enough hot mix asphalt at a working temperature for up to two days’ work. Operatives have therefore reduced trips to and from site for asphalt refills. The team moves directly from site to site, completing up to four tasks in a day and reducing the number of hours at each site.
